Just before they closed their doors to the public, Puma gave the NY based sneaker store Classic Kicks the opportunity to collaborate on Puma’s signature running shoe, the R698.
Classic Kicks may have shut their doors in 2010, but that surely didn’t keep them out of the sneaker game forever… Here we have a project that Classic Kicks & Puma had, which dates back as far as 2008. To have a major brand come and approach you to collaborate together on a sneaker, is an honour in its own right, something which the guys a Classic Kicks jumped at. The inspiration for each colourway of the R6098 does not necessarily link, but can be one only of a true sneaker-head.
The Seafoam/Purple/Infrared colourway was inspired by one of his favourite sneakers from his youth, featured in a certain sneaker book (can you guess which one?). The additional colours used add to this special make-up. Making a huge difference to having the standard 3M panels, they have placed a 3M reflective underlay in the mesh (it’s always about being seen by others when running in the dark). Also with red 3M hits around the toe-box area and the heel (with the heel featuring a honeycomb detail). The main part of the shoe is made up of soft suede-like material, with a neoprene tongue and inner lining.
The Light Grey/Black/Red/Teal colourway was drawn from a friendship bracelet the owner had as a kid. He thought the combination worked then, and still works now. This colourway doesn’t feature the same 3M reflective underlay in the mesh like it’s sibling, this time we have a black mesh toe-box, predominantly light grey upper with red and teal hits, sporty a flashy teal neoprene tongue.
Both models use Puma’s ‘Trinomic Technology’ a honeycomb shaped cell that ensures cushioning, stability and durability for more than twice the distance provided by foam-based shoes.
The Puma x Classic Kicks R698 Pack will be available in-store at Foot Patrol on the 19th February. Sizes UK4 – UK11, at £89.99
